White Sauce/ Bechamel Sauce

White sauce, also known as Bechamel sauce, is one of the five mother sauces in French cuisine. The basis for many delicious recipes! Easy to make, only a few ingredients required!

Ingredients:

▪️ 4 tbsp unsalted butter
▪️ 2 tsp onion powder or paste
▪️ 2 tsp garlic paste
▪️ 1/4 tsp oregano
▪️ 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
▪️1 liter (4 cups) milk
▪️ 1 tsp white pepper
▪️ 1/4 tsp salt

Directions:

▪️ Melt butter in a nonstick pan over medium heat.

▪️ Add onion powder and garlic paste. Saute until smells nice.

▪️ Add oregano and stir for a minute or so.

▪️ Add the flour and whisk to form a smooth paste, it’s called roux.
Stir frequently till the flour is no longer raw! Be careful so that the flour doesn’t turn into brown!

▪️ Turn the heat down to medium-low and add the milk in 3-4 steps.

▪️ Keep on stirring thoroughly
with a whisk to avoid any lumps.

▪️ Meanwhile, add white peppers and salts.

▪️ Continue stirring until the desired consistency is achieved. A perfect textured sauce would be thick enough to create a coating on a spatula or at the back of a spoon after dipped. Also, a clean line would be created if you run your finger on it.
Though some recipes may require even thicker.
